Herald Investment Trust specialises in small-cap stocks involved in technology, media, and telecoms. Roughly half its portfolio is listed in the UK with a quarter in North America and the remainder in Europe and Asia. It was launched in early 1994, pre-dating both Allianz Technology and Polar Capital Technology by a couple of years, and has been managed throughout by Katie Potts. RIT Capital Partners (ticker: RCP) was listed in 1988 and is the largest trust in the Flexible sector with a market cap of £4bn. It was chaired up until 2019 by Lord Rothschild and his family still holds a 21% stake and has a seat on its board. The Renewables Infrastructure Group, often referred to as TRIG, was one of the original half-dozen renewable trusts launched in 2013 and 2014. Managed by InfraRed Capital Partners, which also runs HICL Infrastructure, TRIG has built up a portfolio worth nearly £3bn of diversified European renewable assets although there is a bias towards wind power (86% of the portfolio) and the UK (58%). UPDATE: Round Hill Music Royalty was sold to Concord for $1.15 per share in October 2023.
Round Hill Music Royalty Fund is the smaller and newer of the two music royalty funds although its investment adviser, Round Hill Music, has been around since 2010. The two music trusts (Round Hill and Hipgnosis) look similar in many ways but Round Hill's catalogue of songs is older and more skewed towards rock music, it has a slightly lower level of gearing and it has been much less acquisitive. Round Hill joined the market in late 2020 and is targeting a long-term annualised return of between 9 and 11%...
