Edmund Shing, Global Chief Investment Office for BNP Paribas and a longstanding contact of ours since the 1990s, contributes regularly to Money Makers to provide a different professional perspective on current market issues and opportunities. Many thanks to you if you have been one of them. I have also been interviewed a number of times in the last few days about the Handbook and my reasons for choosing investment trusts. Here is a link to one of them. Because of the Christmas h...

My notes this week include a link to my video about what the charts are suggesting and a disturbing prediction by the Swiss investor Felix Zulauf, whose track record when judging the market cycle has been exemplary in my experience. Following Alastair Laing's stint on the podcast last week, Nick Greenwood and Peter Hewitt will be on the next two weekly podcasts. Sebastian Lyon, the manager of Personal Assets and CEO of Troy Asset Management, has also been booked for a future Q and A. This week you can also find links to both the latest Investment Trusts Handbook and an interview about its co...

Biotech Growth (ticker: BIOG) was launched in 1997. After a promising start, its performance tailed off and this led to the appointment of OrbiMed, the manager of Worldwide Healthcare Trust, as its new investment adviser in 2005. Over the following decade, Biotech Growth steadily outperformed its new benchmark, the Nasdaq Biotechnology Index, but then its shares hit another soft patch and moved sideways for a few years. In late 2019, the trust shifted its portfolio more towards smaller biotech companies and its shares doubled in just over a year, propelled higher by the COVID pandemic. However...
