BlackRock Latin American (BRLA) was launched in 1990 and has been managed by BlackRock since 2006 when they took over from F&C. After the wind-down in 2023 of abrdn Latin American, BLRA is now the only trust in the AIC's Latin American sector. It has a concentrated portfolio of around three dozen stocks and sticks fairly closely to the country weightings of its benchmark, which has around 60% in Brazil, 30% in Mexico, and 10% in three other countries. Schroder Japan (SJG) was listed in 1994 when it raised £120m at 100p per share. Although it was launched five years after the peak of the market, its shares effectively moved sideways for almost two decades as Japanese equities took a very long time to fully recover from the excesses of the 1980s. Temple Bar (TMPL) was launched in 1926 and has been a UK-focused equity trust for many decades although it has the flexibility to invest up to 30% of its portfolio overseas. The trust was run by Alastair Mundy of Investec/Ninety One from 2002 to early 2020, who was famous for his deep value approach, however, he left for health reasons soon after a very heavy fall in the share price when COVID first struck.
