Rockwood Strategic (RKW) joined the London market in 1999 as New Media Spark when it was largely invested in unquoted technology businesses. After a realisation process that took several years, it appointed Gresham House as its management firm in 2015, renamed itself Gresham House Strategic, and adopted a 'public equity' approach that was focused on 10-15 UK-listed small-cap stocks valued below £250m. The trust performed reasonably for the next few years but was sub-scale and traded at a big discount. Richard Staveley joined as lead manager in September 2019 but resigned from Gresham House in ...

Schroder Oriental Income (SOI) was launched in 2005 raising £150m. Matthew Dobbs was the lead manager until his retirement at the end of 2020 and since then Richard Sennitt, who worked closely with Dobbs for many years, has been in charge. This is the latest article from our contributor Reg Hoare, who has worked for 40 years in the City, initially in investment banking and the securities business, latterly as managing director of MHP Communications. He has been investing in investment trusts as a private investor for more than three decades. Here he reviews the performance of his holdings over calendar year 2024.
