Schroder UK Mid Cap (ticker: SCP) was founded in 1983. Schroders won the mandate to run the trust in 2003, taking over from Legg Mason. Andy Brough has been a co-manager for the last twenty years, initially alongside Rosemary Banyard. When Banyard left Schroders in 2016, Jean Roche was appointed as co-manager and she has since been promoted to lead manager. For the first several years with Schroders, SCP was invested in both small- and mid-caps before deciding in 2011 to concentrate on the latter to differentiate its strategy. Its portfolio now consists of around 50 FTSE 250 stocks with a rel...

In early 2018, Gore Street Energy Storage (ticker: GSF) became the first energy storage fund to be listed in London. It initially raised just £30m but has subsequently raised a further £485m. Gore Street's first few assets were based in Great Britain but the last couple of years have seen it add assets in Ireland, Germany, and Texas. It currently has 17 assets with a capacity of 370MW but hopes to expand this to 1.2GW by the end of 2026, adding California as its fifth operational market. The international diversification should give Gore Street a smoother revenue profile than the two other bat...

JPMorgan Japanese (ticker: JFJ) was launched in 1927 as The Capital & National Trust and has been focused on Japanese equities since 1982. This trust has been managed by Nicholas Weindling since 2007 with Miyako Urabe coming on board as co-manager more recently in 2019. JFJ invests in a relatively concentrated portfolio of quality growth stocks and normally uses a low double-digit level of gearing, benefiting from low-rate yen loans. Returns since Weindling became the lead manager in 2010 have been 9.0% on an annualised NAV basis compared to 7.6% for the TOPIX benchmark although JFJ has un...

Still boring but important My confidence that our new subscription system would work seamlessly and without bugs has sadly proved to be short-lived. We are finding that a small number of subscribers have temporarily lost access to their accounts and others have not received this new weekly email. In a very small number of cases subscribers are somehow being charged twice for their subscription, which is obviously unacceptable. Anyone who has been charged twice by Paypal will of course be promptly refunded in full. The main issue appears to be that Paypal and the subscription system are not se...
